Last week SC Johnson, the manufacturer of conventional cleaning products like Pledge, Shout, and Windex, announced that they’ll list out all fragrance ingredients in a new product to be released, the Glade® Fresh Citrus Blossoms, becoming the first company to disclose fragrance ingredients in its products.

“Over 80% of consumers express the desire for full ingredient disclosure, so… we know it’s only a matter of time before companies are required to give consumers this information,” said Jamie McConnell, Director of Programs and Policy at Women’s Voices for the Earth, an organization that spent the last nine years pushing for 100% ingredient transparency in products.

SC Johnson has been committed to ingredient disclosure since 2009, when they launched their ingredient disclosure website.

“Families need to trust our products in order for our industry to succeed. Ingredient safety is a complicated science and can be easily misunderstood. It’s important for companies to continue to openly address health and safety questions and concerns so people feel comfortable with, and believe in, their products,” said SC Johnson’s Kelly Semrau in an interview last year with ChemicalWatch.

We look forward to more cleaning product companies joining this effort to provide transparency around the ingredients in their products.
